StarCraft is one of the most popular science fiction video games. The game’s events are set in a science fiction universe. The said universe was created by Blizzard Entertainment. The game follows a set story which is given in the game's manual. The setting for the game involves an incident in the early 21st century, in which due to the overpopulation of earth, the international government exiles certain undesirable humans from earth. The exiled humans involve criminals as well as the mutants that were enhanced through cybernetic methods. These exiled people were sent to colonize the far reaches of the galaxy.
There is a Koprulu Sector in the distant part of the galaxy which is populated by theses exiles sent there by different governments from earth. Due to their volatile nature, the exiles fall into conflict with each other. Out of the whole conflict, a governing group by the name of Confederacy of Man emerges as the strongest group and starts to rule. However the Confederacy of Man is known to oppress the other exiles. This causes the rise of a militant group, the Sons of Korhal. The game begins when in December 2499, an alien race known as the Protoss with an advanced technology makes contact with the exiles on Koprulu sector. They destroy a Confederate colony without any warning. Then it is discovered by the exiles that there is a second race by the name of Zerg, which is comprised of insectoid aliens that is infesting the surface of the Koprulu sector colonies. Then they come to know that the Protoss are destroying the colonies to prevent the Zerg from populating the area. This causes a three way war and humans, Protosses and Zergs start to battle for survival. This setting makes StarCraft a truly unique experience in sci-fi video gaming.
